Default Various status of activity to different people.

When I go to messenger, there are times I want to talk to a couple of people,
without my whole list sending me salutations.

Is there a way to set my status to offline, but communicate with IM directly
to people I want to talk to?

If not, that would be a good idea.

Greetings,

Windows Messenger won't allow you to do this, but MSN Messenger and Windows Live Messenger do
by allowing you to sign in as 'Appear offline' in the main Messenger window. Once you're
signed in as offline, you can still talk to contacts (another MSN Messenger/Live Messenger
feature) and they can respond to you. No one else will know you're online.

The latest Windows Live Messenger can be found he
