Subject says it all really. I always run Explorer with the tree view on
the left. Sometimes, when I focus on a folder with a .zip file in it, it
shows as a pseudo-folder below the containing one; sometime it doesn't,
and I have to double-click on it (the .zip file), which then opens in a
new window. I've just found that, in that new window, I can do View,
Explorer Bar, Folders and get what I want, but I'm still puzzled why
this happens automatically for some .zip files and not others. (And it
means I have one more window open, too.)

I haven't installed WinZip or anything - this is just XP's basic
Explorer.

Don't have a direct answer, but I generally install ZipCentral or 7-Zip,
which are better (free) replacements for the internal zip function.

Quarks are clearly of female gender, this is evidenced by their indecision.
