Exactly what do you mean by "died"?

ive been told i need to reload xp

By whom? How do you know that advice is right? Sometimes it *is*
necessary, but more often than not it's terrible advice, spoken by
someone who is incompetent at solving problems.

but ive lost my
copy is there anywhere i can download it from.

No.

It's the key that represents your license, not the CD. If you don't
have a CD, but know someone who has the correct CD (xp pro oem), you
can legally borrow and copy it for your own use.

Since you purchased an OEM copy, no support from Microsoft was included.
You will need to contact whomever is the OEM'er that installed the
product to find out how to obtain replacement installation CDs from
them. If you bought the OEM software separate of the computer and
installed it yourself, you are the OEM'er.
