Leave Battery In or Out?
I have a Acer laptop which I run off of AC power 95% of the time. Is it ok
to remove the laptops battery when using AC or will this cause any problems I may not be aware of? -Acer TravelMate 2450 laptop. -Windows XP , Home , SP3. Thanks! |

There have been discussions on various newsgroups about battery in or out on laptops since newsgroups and laptops have been developed. With the newer batteries used in laptops, heat, not the charge/discharge cycles seem to cause the most damage to those battery types. Personally, I leave my battery in as it is a built-in form of uninterruptable power supply to my computer when running on shore power and I have not seen a major loss of ability in the battery to power the computer after more than one year. Even if properly stored and charged exactly to a manufacturer's recommendation you probably won't get more than 2-3 years of satisfactory service from a laptop battery. |

No, but there again have you checked that it runs with the battery removed?

See Dl's response but if it is on a cooling mat that would actually help keep the battery cooler so there would be "longer life" than one sitting without the cooler. |

Leave Battery In or Out?
For what it is worth my 6 year old Compaq Notebook's original battery power
lasted around 1 hour 20 minutes. But when it powered down in less than 1/2 hour I purchased a new one online. This replacement has lasted 4 years but only has always had a run-time of just about an hour. Jean "LVTravel" wrote: "slick1" wrote in message ... "LVTravel" wrote in message ... However the battery, acting as a capacitor, smooth ripples from AC source.
Without battery, you leave circuits more exposed to ripples -- stefanoes "biermanoski" wrote: For what it is worth my 6 year old Compaq Notebook's original battery power lasted around 1 hour 20 minutes.
