FireFox disabeling tiles.services.mozilla.com problems.
For the longest time I've been trying to find a setting (or combination
thereof) which would stop my browser (v52.5.0) from trying to access (on startup) "tiles.services.mozilla.com", and never have been able to find it. Yesterday I suddenly noticed that the the request for it was gone (I had been changing an URL in about:config that day - and later back), where it was there the same morning. So, I tried to re-trace my steps in about:config to see what I changed to make that happen. I was unable to do so. :-( I than saved the current "prefs.js" - which is said to hold all the "about:config" preferences - and reloaded an old version from a backup. The thing is that, even after a reboot (just to make sure), the request for "tiles.services.mozilla.com" stayed absent. It is as if switching it isn't stored in there. Also, I've just compared (using FC) the prefs.js from a profile which doesn't (anymore) try to connect to "tiles.services.mozilla.com" with the same file from a profile which still does (just re-confirmed both), and have not been able to find a different line which either includes "tile" or "tab". Two problems: 1) I have /absolutily no idea/ how I switched it off (or if it was my doing to begin with). 2) Where is that setting stored if not in about:config ? Help ? Regards, Rudy Wieser |

John,
This sounds very much like a query for mozilla.support.firefox (you have to sign up to the Mozilla newsserver, it's not part of general usenet, but it's free to do so). I've got that server in my list. Have been posting there a few times (programming related), but either never saw my posts appear, or nobody replied. As a result I'm not subscribed to any newsgroup there anymore. Can't remember having had to sign up for anything though (and its not something I easily do). I'll think I'll just copy-paste my quetion in there, and see if it wil pass the moderator of that group. Thanks for the suggestion. Regards, Rudy Wieser |

FireFox disabeling tiles.services.mozilla.com problems.
Paul,
Yesterday I suddenly noticed that the the request for it was gone .... and its back today. :-| You can find discussion threads on the topic. "Disabling tile fetching and metrics" http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...?f=7&t=2888321 Thanks for the link. I just went thru all the my non-url settings, and they match the suggested ones (thru the whole thread). The "browser.newtab.url" isn't valid for FF v52 anymore though (did have to do some omni.ja hacking to get it back). As for the url related ones ? Yes, I can change those. But thats not the point. I'm looking for a method to /disable/ it. And as I, I think, have done "all the right things" (tm) it /should/ have been disabled. But its not. :-( Regards, Rudy Wieser |
