Default Tip: changing Public network to Private network

Hi All,

If you accidentally click Public when you wanted Private
on a new network adapter and have googled your ass off
trying to set it back and found that the places to set
it back are missing, here is my what I finally came up
with.

Let me know is you want any screen shots of the missing
stuff. I will hold on to it for a couple of hours.

Hi T,

I don't have convenient access to a Windows machine right this minute,
but I'm still betting that this is right:

And you are wrong.

Hi Alan,

That is for a WiFi network and yes I saw that. This was
for an Ethernet connection. The same applies for both,
but the essential dialog is missing.

So I can update my documentation. I would appreciate it
if you were to pour over my findings below and let
me know where I went wrong. I could be blind and the
necessary parts could be right under my nose. It
has happened before. Please include the build numbers
you tested on.

Okay, here goes:

Under settings, network, Ethernet (same place your link
takes you to), this is what it is suppose to look like:

https://i2.wp.com/www.techjunkie.com...90%2C474&ssl=1

This is what two machines 1909 and 2004 gave me:

https://ibb.co/MN21PCP

Skips right over the "metered Connection".

Using powershell as administrator, asking for
network connections profiles should have gave me:

https://www.itechtics.com/wp-content...ng:webp/ngcb31

But instead the same two machines gave me:

https://ibb.co/7XZVCqx

No profiles were located.

Not much better with secpol.msc on the same two
machines either:

Should have:

https://www.itechtics.com/wp-content...twork-type.jpg

Actual:

https://ibb.co/Wn8mmy5

Again the profile was missing.

So I was relegated to using the registry. There I found
the UUIDs.

Many thanks,
-T

T,

On my Windows 10 ver 2004:

Settings--Network and Internet--Status Then click on Properties (to the left of Data Usage)

This brings you to the old Network Profile.

At least it does on my machine.

Hi JT,

Ahhh. Now that worked. The how to's I came across had
me going to Settings--Network and Internet--Ethernet

So 1909/2004 moved the Network Profile from Ethernet to the
Status, Properties page.

Thank you!

At least I know how to do it with the registry now.
