Default missing eject icon on the task bar

Hi All,

W10-1909m, x64

A mystery to solve.

A customer does not have and eject icon on the
far right of her taskbar. She does have "eject"
on the context menu of Windows Explorer for flash
drives.

In show which icons appear on the task bar, it does
not exist.

Isn't there a rundll invocation to start that thing ?

https://windowsreport.com/safely-rem...on-windows-10/

RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll

And there's fiddling with some Notification tick boxes,
but for the average user, they likely haven't been playing
in there.

Hi Paul,

That does bring up the dialog, but does not put the icon on the taskbar.

Rats!!

I have done everything in the article too, plus a bunch
of registry and powershell stuff too.

If you can't fix it yourself then I can fix it for you.Â* This is for
your customers so they must be paying you. we can fix it for you for 50% of the fees you are charging.

This is a very simple fix and it takes 5 seconds. There is no need to touch
registry keys and all that which you will break them if you are new to them.

I am remoted into the customer and have my w10 VM open at
the same time. I occurs to me that because she has an
mSATA drive that the eject icon won't appear until she
installs a flash drive. I did not with a flash drive
before, but all the multiple things I did may have
fixed it. I will find out in the morning.

My VM has sata drive attached, so the eject would appear.

I did run sfc /scan now and it did find several things
to fix and logged them into a log, but it was too long
for me to go through

Taskbar Windows Explorer.

KenW

"She does have "eject" on the context menu of
Windows Explorer for flash drives."

And using Paul's rundll approach, its worked too, but
no icon on the task bar.

Do a Google search regarding "regsvr32" of DLLs.

Perhaps one of the DLLs involved in this case has
become "unregistered".

And sorry, I don't know what "registering" a DLL means...
I don't know where the state info is stored, what
the state info consists of. To me, it remains a ceremony
of "unknown purpose".
