Bingo, Ramesh!

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet
Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\freewebs.com
Value Name: *
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 4

SpywareBlaster probably added this entry. A setting of 4 = Restricted Sites
Zone.

IE | Tools | Internet Options | Security tab | Restricted Sites |
Sites button | Web sites | *.freewebs.com

Using the asterisk * as a wild card in front of .freewebs.com includes all
the domains in .freewebs.com.

There is also a 127.0.0.1 counters.freewebs.com entry in my MVPS HOSTS
file.

Duh, I should've noticed this yesterday when I visited
http://www.freewebs.com/detdreyer, there is a Restricted sites icon in IE.
But I wasn't paying attention. I am too poor to pay attention. ;-)

Detlev's web site is on a domain that must be known for offering bad ActiveX
stuff or ad / tracking cookies.

Wes,

Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded.

Perhaps the parent domain (freewebs.com) added to the Restricted sites
list?

Gotcha on the MID.

Clicking an MID in OE, opens the message...

They will also open in OE if pasted into the Run command or the Address
bar
of IE.

I assume that it works with other newsreaders to click the links.

I just set IE Internet zone to Low and got the same Not Found error.

WTF, Chuck? [That's rhetorical and colloquial.]

I have the Internet zone set to Medium, with one customization; Allow
paste
operations via script disabled.

IE | Tools | Internet Options | Security tab | Custom Level button |
File download ENABLED

I just set it to medium-low and got the same error.

I just set it LOW and got the same error.

Beats me. The avi must be rated PG or higher. LOL

Meanwhile, I suspect that your restrictive browser security settings do
not allow for any URL redirection on your systems.

Apparently.

Detlev, you mentioned MID in another post (or two). OK, I give up,
what's MID?

Wes, no need to give up. MID = Message ID

For instance, the following link (example) contains the
MID

Until now, Google was redirecting automatically to the corresponding
article when posting that way. It still works here and therefore, I'm
somewhat surprised that you and Ramesh encountered these problems.

I was posting an AVI file (DivX), it shows that this redirection still
works. However, I was using a 19" wide screen (16:9) display and there-
fore, you may need a pretty high resolution in order to play that movie:

Well, that's pretty common regarding free webhosting domains. Anyway,
I prefer to apply all security settings myself rather than to allow any
third-party software to add those domains to the restricted sites in
general and without my knowledge. When done, all of my systems are
configured the same way and therefore, they always behave similary.

Actually, everything that SpywareBlaster adds is with my knowledge. But I
do not normally look that closely at the individual domains that it adds.
Normally the domain names mean nothing to me. I do the updates manually and
look them over a *little* bit before enabling them. Some of the domain
names look obvious, like extremegaymovies.com, for example.

Like I posted earlier, if I had been paying attention when visiting your
site, I would have seen the Restricted sites icon.

All of my systems behave the same. I have one computer. :-)

Wes,

Have SpywareBlaster (Database Feb 15, 2007) and freewebs.com is not in the Restricted sites listing. Do you IE-SpyAds?

Ramesh,

I don't have Eric Howe's IE-SpyAds. I have the same SpywareBlaster Database
Feb 15, 2007. I just opened SpywareBlaster and did a Find under Restricted
Sites and freewebs.com is not listed. Hmm. I wonder what might have added
it? I just assumed that it was SpywareBlaster.

I have Spybot - S & D, but I do not have Immunize, SDHelper or Tea Timer
enabled. But I suppose that Spybot - S & D Immunize could've added
freewebs.com to Restricted Sites.

Spybot - S & D Immunize "adds domains known to contain bad contents into the
Restricted Zone, thus blocking installation of executable code from those
pages; it also adds block options for bad executable code by its ID, and it
sets known tracking cookies to not be accepted by Internet Explorer."

I opened C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Includes\Domains.sbs
with Notepad, but I couldn't read anything.

I opened C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Includes\Targets.nfo
with Notepad, but freewebs was not in there.

I also have Ad-Aware SE Personal, but it's the free version and doesn't have
Ad-Watch and I do not have any add-ons.

So my *guess* is that it was Spybot - S & D.
