Start menu tab missing on taskbar properties
I just upgraded to the windows 10 RTM today. I knew I'd hate it (i'm not
good with change) but figured I'd customize things and get it back to how I liked it. Anyway, no go. The start menu tab was missing from the taskbar properties screen. All I could find was a few forums on the web with people saying they'd had the problem in earlier builds but no fixes for it. Anyway, I couldnt customize it and none of the right click links on the start menu worked so that was a deal breaker for me. I immediately reloaded my Win7 image. That and Microsoft apps stealing all the default programs turned me off a lot. Anyone have any ideas about the start menu tab being missing? I tried an early preview of Win10 and didnt have as many problems as with the RTM. |

May or may not provide what you were looking for. Nope, I only had 4 settings at that location and not at all what I was looking for. Plus it didn't make any difference in the fact that hardly any of the right click options worked on the start menu button. I'm sure this is a bug from an upgrade of W7 but it's a pretty serious one and I'm surprised Microsoft never fixed it. As I said, I found a couple of web sites listing the same behavior. Here's an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/c...m_taskbar_and/ "When right clicking on TaskbarProperties, brings up the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, which now has no Start Menu tab. I assume this will be fixed since its still named 'Start Menu' properties. Anyone else with 10162 confirm its missing? Google did not help confirm. I was looking to pin custom folders to the start menu (ala win7) WITHOUT the jump lists. Also was trying to add control panel link. Or even replace "Settings" link with control panel. I know Win+X has it right there but I prefer it in the Start Menu." |

Not only all the crap they install but now they make it harder than ever to get rid of it. |

I've since installed clean installed and found they removed it completely in W10. It's the area you used to be able to customise what appeared on the start menu. These are images from older windows versions. First shows the tab labeled "Start Menu" You see it when you right click the taskbar and choose properties. The second pic is the customization screen you get from off that tab. In Windows 10 all you get is Taskbar Toolbars and a new Navigation tab but not the Start menu even though they still label the window as Taskbar and Start Menu properties. None of the start menu customizations are there anymore. Some are in other locations but not many. http://cdn3.howtogeek.com/wp-content...009/10/5st.png http://www.techsupportalert.com/file...start-menu.png |

If you want to change the start menu there are some settings he Start button Settings Personalization Start Choose which folders appear on Start. I saw that but it didn't help a lot. Maybe what I want is still possible and I'm just not sure how to do it. I want to be able to drag shortcuts to the start menu like I could in Windows 7. I can still do that but they appear as Tiles and I want them to be text items. I hate the tiles too and unpin those. Whoever insisted tiles were a "futuristic UI" has been going to kindergarten for too long. |
