You show your ignorance, presuming to describe with such authority,
somebody whom you do not know in the least. When I give advice in this forum, for whatever time is now left to it, I do so knowing my limitations, and make no secret of the fact that I am no expert, just an enthusiast. I believe I have been of some help here, even in threads where Microsoft MVPs have been involved, but even they don't "hit the right spot" on occasion - they are not "gods" (as I'm sure they will admit) !! Plus, I have been giving advice (only on matters that are within my experience, I hasten to add), here for around the past two years, and this is the FIRST time I've seen a poster that goes by the name of "Tester" !! == God bless you (you need it), Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :-( "Tester" wrote in message ... Tim Meddick wrote: It's really sad..... Because of M$'s decision to close the Groups, I added the following to my OE : (nntp.aioe.org) alt.msdos.batch alt.windows-xp This is a very stupid thing to do because nutters like you don't get the cryptic message from Redmond (WA 98052-6399) that they don't want idiots like you or Pig-Bear posting any solutions to Microsoft's own applications. They have their own staff to do this. No wonder they hang around on Forums to give real life working solutions to by pass nutters like you. Peckham boy - learn a thing or two and don't remain a stupid fat boy. |

P.S. I correct myself;
Having conducted a search (in OE) for the sender's name: "Tester". - It came back with five responses by yourself since February of this year. And, IMHO your own advice leaves a lot to be desired.... == Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :-) |

Bwaaahaaahaaa, what a rube you are. Yeah, like Microsoft "staff" visits here (in Usenet) or in their forums, uh huh. It is wiser to remain silent and have others ponder your ignorance rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt. You certainly proved you ignorance here. I bet you think the "MVP" badge that egotistically adorned to the monikers of some posters makes them Microsoft employees, too. NONE of them work for Microsoft. You are at a complete loss as to just what is Usenet. You are at a complete loss at who participates in the forums. |

Now thiese messages cannot be censored and we can abuse all mother ****ers. Another rube. These messages were NEVER censored by Microsoft other than on their own NNTP server which had little effect on posts submitted in the rest of Usenet in the same newsgroups. They are unmoderated newsgroups. Spend more time in Usenet and start reading up on how it works as an anarchy of *users*. The microsoft.public.* newsgroups were not carried on a publicly accessible but non-peered Microsoft NNTP server so Microsoft, if they choose, could regulate the content of any posts. If the posts were not peered to other NNTP servers then, yes, Microsoft chose to peer their NNTP server hence their newsgroups with all the other nodes in the worldwide mesh network of Usenet. There are publicly accessible but private NNTP servers (e.g., news.grc.com) where moderation would work. All Microsoft could do was employ some filtering that got performed automatically (since they didn't allocate a workforce of moderators) to eliminate the submission of some posts on THEIR server. They could do nothing about posts that originated on other nodes that peer amongst each other (along with Microsoft's node). These newsgroups were not moderated. They still aren't. They're in Usenet, not carried by a single non-peered Microsoft-managed node. Microsoft did not setup their NNTP server to e-mail a group of moderators to decide whether or not a submission would be accepted or rejected. They employed some filters to do some filtering which was automatic but often would reject messages that had no "bad" content (tis the problem of using static filters). In some cases, the mere inclusion of the "alt." string, as in mentioning alt.comp.hardware, would result in Microsoft's static filters rejecting the post - but obviously only if the post was submitted through THEIR server. Since they peered with the rest of Usenet, and since they employed no real persons to effect moderation, submissions that originated at other nodes in Usenet were not subject to the filters at Microsoft and those nodes would peer amongst each other. It was possible that a post would not appear on Microsoft's NNTP overview and article databases but appear in the rest of Usenet. This does not qualify the *newsgroup* as a moderated group and this uncoordinated filtering was ineffective. Interesting that someone defending Microsoft under the false assumption that Microsoft could censor the content in the microsoft.public.* newsgroups also posts with "micro****" in their bogus e-mail address. What is Usenet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsgroups http://www.masonicinfo.com/newsgroups.htm http://www.mcfedries.com/Ramblings/usenet-primer.asp How to moderate a newsgroup (something Microsoft was not willing to invest the time and effort to employ): http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/faqs/mod-pitfalls.html ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet/news.a...derated-ng-faq It's not "now these messages cannot be censored". It's "they have never been censored and still aren't despite Microsoft's past presence or with their future absence". |
