Double activation for customers who pay and want to manually download
updates. What a stupid PR move that will be, really stupid. People who use
pirated OS's will just not update and the Internet will be more dangerous.
Stupid, really stupid and very greedy. I sure hope someone like Google comes
up with a user friendly OS to thrwart MS' monopoly.

It would be nice for Microsoft to have more competition and I would not mind
if Google develops an operating system to compete with Microsoft operating
systems. Anyway, Microsoft does their best work, imo, when they have
competition.

I know. But that's for now. The end of the article says this:

"It will create an environment where the pirated machines, if they're
connected to the Internet, won't really work," he said.

And if you PAY and want to manually update, you have to go through hoops.
Bad PR that one.

Same article that states:

"By mid-2005, the program will become mandatory for Windows users to get
virtually all updates, including security fixes available through the
company's Windows Update Web site. But users who have pirated copies of
Windows will be able to continue to get security fixes if they sign up to
automatically receive security updates."

Oops.

Sorry, but if ALL one can afford is a bicycle then that is what you BUY,
IT in no way justifies stealing a CAR because that's what you WANT. That
makes you a thief any way you cut it.

Anthony wrote:

NOW we are getting somewhere. You said the magic bunch of words âEURoeIf you
didnâEUR^(TM)t agree with the terms you would buy a car elsewhereâEUR? ThatâEUR^(TM)s all well
and good, and normally it is what I would do. But letâEUR^(TM)s look at the facts
here. Using Linux with the devices and software I use is like a bicycle to a
car. It is simply not an option. Linux is really the only other alternative
if you will even call it one.
With cars and most other products there is much competiton and
alternatives. I donâEUR^(TM)t like prices or brand or lease agreements there are ten
other dealerships lining up to do business with me and work something out.
Say it with me? âEURoeCompetitions are a GOOD thingâEUR? Microsoft is a monster and I
will say it once again I am very pro Microsoft. You can refuse to believe it
but Microsoft is no longer just a company that makes an operating system
Microsoft is computers and computers are Microsoft. With that said I really
could not give a s**t about all of your waked out ideas of what you believe
to be fair because people like me are the moderators of companies like
Microsoft.

And besides with out people like me, then you all couldnâEUR^(TM)t feel so good
about yourselves. What do you think you are captain America because you go to
the store and pay 70 bucks or whatever it costs to buy windows (I donâEUR^(TM)t know
ive never bought software in my life) haâEUR¦? But I bet if I knew your lifeâEUR^(TM)s I
could go down the list and find things you do that I find to be completely
unethical against my ethics. This is just one little part of your life that
you decided goes against your weak minded moral principles.

Do you agree to the terms?
If not, do not buy the car.
If you do agree but choose to violate what you already agreed, you have

If you would buy a car under those terms and break the agreement, you are a
liar.
I would not buy the car from you under those terms, I would go elsewhere.
Similarly people can go elsewhere for software.
To make the excuse with such lame examples as your car dealership show much
of the weakness of your point.

The bottom line is what is the agreement and do you accept it?
Whether you like it or not is not relevant once you accept it.

M$ is getting more and more ridiculous as time goes by. Here’s a hint
for the idiots at M$… people that steal, clone, copy, hack and crack
software thus circumventing M$’s sleazy activation scheme will
continue to steal, clone, copy, hack and crack software while people
of moral integrity that purchase their software will always purchase
their software. And as always, only those of moral integrity that
purchased the software will be the ones jumping though M$’s sleazy
hurdles to prove that they didn’t steal the software.

Someone on another NG told me that if being assumed to be guilty until
I could prove my innocence upset me so much then why not just be the
thief Bill assumes me to be and steal his stupid software and do
whatever it is they do to circumvent the activation scheme. If Billy
Boy assumes I am already a thief, then be a thief. Well I’m better
than Billy Boy and will not lower myself to his questionable level of
integrity (I’ve never been called before a Congressional investigation
into my business practices). I don’t steal and don’t plan on starting
at this older age of my life. But I reserve the right to disrespect
and show no quarter to any sleaze ball that assumes I am a thief until
I prove to them that I am not a thief.

A couple months back, I watched some discussion group taking the same
viewpoint on one of the 24-hour network news programs. I remember one
of the group saying something like what do we think Gates would say if
everyone individually required him to prove that he would pay the fair
share of taxes on the profits made off each individual copy of his
software packages before anyone would purchase them. In other words,
assuming he would not pay those taxes until he proved that he would.
No doubt he would take offense at the assumption of him being
dishonest about it until he proved he wasn’t in order to make each
individual sale. Sort of like each individual sale needing to prove
to him that they didn’t steal his software before they can use it… not
that the thieves, cloners, copiers, hackers and crackers could care
less much less be bothered with any activation scheme before they use
his software.

I apologize for the soapbox speech and any flames in retaliation will
not change what I feel. This is just a sore topic with me. I spent
34 years directly under a code of Duty, Honor, Country of which the
Honor part entails strict quidlines associated with character and
integrity to include but not limited to such immoral actions as
thievery. Now, in the twilight of years post duty but still subject
to the code, I take offense by some little Ferret like Bill Gates, who
hasn’t the slightest clue of such codes that some men & women live by,
making me prove that I didn’t steal his stupid software while everyone
that IS stealing his software is circumventing the process of having
to prove any damn thing before using it.

Regards,
T

Where would you suggest getting Red-Hat Fedora Core 3, Leythos and can I make
my computer into a tri-boot computer with this Linux software. I was
wondering if I create a seperate partition if I could install this Linux
software on it and will it cause problems with my other two Microsoft os's?
I have two hard drives -- one with Fat32 (40 gigs) with 98SE and the other
with NTFS with XP PRO. (80 gigs) on it. Space is a concern in my house since
I live with other housemates and we go to the same Chrisitian church and this
helps to cut down on costs. Thanks in advance for all of your help.

But the copying ideas didn't stop at Apple - Steve Jobs and Steve
Wozniak got the GUI interface from Xerox, who invented it but
had no use for it at the time. The first mouse predates that and can
be traced back to the mid-late 1960's.

If your interested in the history of Microsoft & Apple check out a
movie called "The Pirates of Silicon Valley". Perhaps not a 100%
accurate portrayal, but you'll get the feel for how things came about.
