XP Startup selection utility?
Hello all. I've noticed that my computer seems to be running slower during
the boot & startup process in recent days. No viruses are apparent (I ran Norton Anitvirus 2005) & the Microsoft Sypware tool is not showing anything. All software is kept updated. Running BoofVis made a marginal difference, but it's still taking about 2 minutes for everything to load up. (I run GoBack 4.0, which slows things down some.) I've run msconfig to look at what is available in Startup, but it's a little too cryptic for me to decipher. (Some programs such as Soundmax aren't even listed, but appear continuously in the Taskbar.) So I'm wondering if there is some utility that can be used by a non-techie like myself to safely take control of what is & isn't starting up on my PC? (I'm looking for something that is XP-friendly, & I'm leery of downloading just any freeware regarding something like this.) I'd welcome input from MVP's especially. I'm running XP SP2, Office 2003 Pro, Norton SystemWorks Premiere 2005 on a Pentium 4 with 512 MB RAM. Thanks! DennisD |

Among other things, the free Microsoft AntiSpyware program will enable that
control: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx . So will Startup Control Panel from Mike Lin: http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml . As will CounterSpy [$19.95].
