I think you don't understand what System Restore is and what using System
Restore does. System Restore is not a backup of your files. Try opening WinExplorerselect ToolsFolder OptionsView. Click on
Show all files and folders and Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Click on Apply, OK. Then open the C: drive and you should now see System Volume Information Folder. Open and you will see a number of RP Folders. Pick the highest numbered and you should be able to access the files you need. "Starship" please no@spam wrote in message ... System Restore basically keeps track of the changes between restore points, and not the individual files such that they can be recovered by you. i deleted some sample files from a program webshots collection, they had a new update & made my pc crash, i cleaned it up & went back to old version but when i unstalled the new version it took all my collections, I know if i restore back it will appear but dont want to just want to & fix the registry etc again. However, the more you have worked around on that drive, the less likely that is. Another possible option would be to 1) create a new restore point, 2) temporarily rollback to the old one just to copy out the files (and save them somewhere else that is NOT monitored by System Restore), and 3) then restore back to the new point you had just created. And again, whether this will work or not depends on how much you have done on that drive already. |

No. System Restore is not a backup. A web search will explain to you
what System Restore does. --- Leonard Grey Packin' the 'K' Starship wrote: Is there a way i can extract files from system restore without resotring to last point? i deleted some sample files from a program webshots collection, they had a new update & made my pc crash, i cleaned it up & went back to old version but when i unstalled the new version it took all my collections, I know if i restore back it will apprear but dont want to just want to & fix the registry etc again. Addendum: System Restore does NOT monitor music or video files, so using
it will not be able to recover *those types* of files, IF that's what you lost and want back again. So a good unerase program may be your only option. Your procedure does not unhide the contents the System Volume Information Folder. Further Starship does not understand you cannot do what he wants to do as others have explained. -- Hope this helps. Gerry, thanks for the heads up. My experience has only been in copying the reg files from the Snapshot folder. Somehow I confused that with what the Poster wanted. Didnt read the post correctly.
