Kellys fix for msngr ballon...
Kelly.......(or anyone who can help)! tried your tweak for the msnger add ( line 242 )..... didn't see it for a while so thought it was all gone, but today it re-appeared! what's up with that?! I wonder if we are talking about the same annoying pop up... the one I am trying to eliminate is a small little box telling me about a new version of windows messenger. It sort of slides up out of the lower right of my screen right over the task bar... about an inch square. stays there for a few seconds and then slides back down. Doesn't show up at every start up ..... but when it does it seems to be when I start my browser. Most annoying. I looked in the reg, and your fix is there..... hmmm. any other ideas? thanks in advance D Win xp pro ie6 |

Kellys fix for msngr ballon...
Greetings Dave,
That is the wrong fix, however the easiest solution would be to just install the latest version of Windows Messenger (older versions of the Messenger client will soon not be able to connect, and then you'll get a nasty "Could not connect..." error). To do so, download it he http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/download.asp ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Dave" wrote in message ... Kellys fix for msngr ballon...
Hi Dave,
Kelly's "fix" simply removes the balloon that says "Click here to set up your .NET Passport!" -- this isn't what you're seeing (it's possible you've never seen this as you probably set it up in the first place). Depending on what version you're using, downloading and running this .reg file may stop this from happening: http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...ableupdate.reg You'll need to completely shut-down (right-click the Messenger icon and choose Exit) then restart Messenger for the change to take effect. This fix will only work in Windows Messenger, and only the "There is a new version of Windows Messenger..." message this will remove. If the actual message is an instant message explaining that you need to upgrade your Messenger due to an security update, please do so, as your current client version will soon no longer be allowed to connect to the Messenger network if you do not upgrade (hence my original reply). ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Dave" wrote in message ... not sure why I want to install latest version?...... trying to remove all traces of the the one I have! is it that the kelly fix will then work? thanks D "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote in message ...
