Free Anti-Malware any where now?
Well, I managed to get on the fouled up machine and down load
malearebytes. It ran and detected 1397 "objects" -- I have no idea what an "object" is too MWB ---but when I tried to delete them, MWB won' until I pay --- ie MWB is no longer free. So, my question,: Is there a free antivirus software now? |

This might help http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage -- Web based forums are like subscribing to 10 different newspapers and having to visit 10 different news stands to pickup each one. Email list-server groups and USENET are like having all of those newspapers delivered to your door every morning. |

Malwarebytes Antimalware is indeed free. It even says so right there in big letters on their web page http://www.malwarebytes.org/. I use it frequently and I have for years. Malwarebytes tell you in detail what the specific objects it finds are. How can you possibly get these things wrong?? You do it every day. So, my question,: Is there a free antivirus software now? Yes, there are several. Malwarebytes isn't one of them, though. It's a general malware remover, but doesn't target true viruses. |

So, my question,: Is there a free antivirus software now? The "real" MWB *is* free, as long as you don't activate the trial version. In either case, they have never charged to remove malware, so my guess is that you installed something purporting to be MalwareBytes. These are both free: MalwareBytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php SuperAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html -- SC Tom |

Well, I downloaded onwe this A.M. --"installed" it and ran it -- came up with a rediculous "3497 objects found". When I clicked fix --I got a message that i need to subscribe or pay (I don't remember the exact wording) and it would "fix" them. Came to my old XP Pro machine -- foind an old installer --used it and did indeed get the free one. rans it and found no "objects". I can't explain more that that ---I didn't imagine that this happened! Malwarebytes tell you in detail what the specific objects it finds are. How can you possibly get these things wrong?? You must have installed something else. http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebyte...-10804572.html No I didn't download something else --- I know the icon. It is possible I guess that I clicked "free trial" as opposed to "free". |

Wait for responses from the multitude before downloading and installing it. An *exact* copy, using copy and pasts (that's Ctrl-c and Ctrl-v), not a hand-typed copy of the URL (synonym of link). It might even be safest to click on the link and copy the resulting address from your browser's address bar - but after you paste it into a newsgroup post, *EXIT* from the web page. Even close the browser. Then wait for advice from the netizens here before doing *anything* with the site. -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) Do you suppose "Pfsszxt" is Valerie in drag? Chris |

Chris It just has to be. Same style, same cleverness, same technique. I hate to say this but I have a sneaking admiration for the degree of obtuseness he uses. It stays just a wee wee tad short of utterly unbelievable, and that takes intelligence to achieve in my book. Ed |

It is possible I guess that I clicked "free trial" as opposed to "free". And if that were the case it wouldn't matter. If you clicked on the paid version during installation (if that option still exists) it would still be a working version with some extras...like real time protection. The removal process would still work. Also, there is no way in hell that MBAM found 1397 objects (Free and Pro would find the same pests anyway). You installed some crapware that scans the entire computer for "problems" and then tries to get you to buy their crapware. |
