"Desktop Recoverey" : Can't Make It Work.
Running fine on my XP machine... greatest thing since sliced bread.
First time I tried to install it on the 7 machine, I mistakenly installed the 32-bit version. Saw the error of my ways, uninstalled, and then installed the 64-bit version. But I don't get the context menu entry when I right-click on Desktop. It's been through several re-boots. Anybody been here? -- Pete Cresswell --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Antivirus protection is active. http://www.avast.com |

Anybody been here? Does running it as administrator make a difference ? (For example, right-click, select "Run as Administrator".) A program which used to run on WinXP, may show an "error 5" if there is a permissions problem of some sort. Elevating to administrator, can make the problem go away. (Method only suitable for "trusted" executables. Don't "elevate" the latest malware you downloaded... :-) ) Does it need a "compatibility mode" setting to work ? Do "properties" on the installed executable. Check your event viewer, in case any errors were logged there. In the application section perhaps. Programs which croak, can also leave .dmp files for later debugging. Or for viewing with Nirsoft BlueScreenView. Whether a .dmp is generated, may depend on whether Microsoft Reporting is disabled. If an application failure results in a report being sent fo Microsoft, there may be no file left for you as a user to probe. You need to fiddle some registry setting, so the borked program leaves evidence you as a user can look at. Instead of Microsoft. Paul |
