Default Memory

my computer is slowing down, how do I find out if my memory is slow? I have 512 MB of RAM; I have 2 drives first is (FATS) and there I am using 10.6 of the 15.9 GB; on seperate drive (NTFS) I have 54.2 GBs avaialble but I don't know how to use that space,
can anybody help me with both questions? Memory and 2 drives? thxs
