Suddenly a Legitimate copy became -"Evaluation copy of Windows 7"
Suddenly a Legitimate copy became -"Evaluation copy of Windows 7" ??
In February 2010 I've bought in PCW (then) shop a legitimate copy of Windows 7 Professional which I've installed (?) probably over the evaluation copy of Win 7 then. Now suddenly I've experienced quite unpleasant circumstances. First the information started to appear saying that: "Windows 7 evaluation copy. Build 7601." Then; "This is an evaluation copy of Windows 7. Backup your data because Windows 7 will stop working in two days." and so on... Then suddenly "Windows 7 evaluation copy. Build 7601." went into reboot twice so far. Could that be a bug or case of installation of Windows 7 Professional over the Beta evaluation copy? ....... When I went to the "Activate" it says that Activation was successful. But the inscription in right bottom corner: "Windows 7 evaluation copy. Build 7601." - is still there. I'd appreciate any advice or sharing experience with me - THANKS ! |

Suddenly a Legitimate copy became -"Evaluation copy of Windows 7"
Latest message of "Windows Activation" reapeared;
"This pre-release version of Windows 7 Professional will expire in 0 hours To keep using Windows, back up your files, and then install any edition of Windows 7 Professional." When I activated this version I was informed: "Activation was successful" and Windows went working without rebooting. ________________ "Jdr" wrote in message ... Any thread that has people using WLM for any post is, in my opinion, not adhering to accepted standards, so this original question is OT anyway... in my opinion. And that, IS another one of my pet peeves. I promise, I'll never hijack another thread as long I as live. ::evil look:: -- Zilbandy |

I'd appreciate any advice or sharing experience with me - THANKS ! You should contact Microsoft support and describe your problem. Certain issues with the OS, should be handled for free, like your OS being broken by a Windows Update, a Service Pack, or if there are activation issues (such as you're having). It's possible a recent Windows Update associated with invalidating hacked copies of Windows, has done this to you. If it was me (as an amateur), my options would be: 1) System Restore to an earlier date. This probably won't help, as System Restore is probably specifically designed not to "re-validate" an OS if a problem has been detected. So I wouldn't bet money on this being an option at this time. The odds of it fixing the problem, are close to zero. 2) Backup the C: partition, and run the System Update Readiness Tool. It's supposed to have some basic consistency checking logic. If it damages something, simply restore from your backup image. You'd run the Windows 7 version (x86 is for a 32 bit OS install, while x64 is for a 64 bit OS install). That tool should be able to recognize things in the "store" that don't belong there. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 But if you want a solution faster, talk to Microsoft Support. They take a credit card, for regular software problems, but they should be able to support things like Windows Update induced problems, or Activation problems, for free (as they caused them...). Just phone them up and say "you broke my OS..." :-) HTH, Paul |

I would back up my data, format the hard drive and install your Windows 7 Professional. That would probably take less time than fighting with what you have installed now. If you still get the "Windows 7 evaluation copy. Build 7601." in the right bottom corner, whoever sold you the Professional copy, really sold you the Enterprise Evaluation version which, btw, can be rearmed and used for 600 days but it isn't what you think you bought. -- Alias |
