XP Quirks List
Here is a strange behavior by XP Pro.
What have you found? Windows Explorer Create a new folder. Try to name it @ New Folder What happens and why? The result is a legal usable name but not what you typed in. --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |

I am sure MS will get right on it. It has only been there since day one. I believe it has to do with command line parsing. The @ is used to signify that the following string is a reference for the application being called from a command line. e.g. In the case of WinZip @list where @list is the name of a file containing a list of files to include in the zip being created. MS is probably just helping make sure that there is no space between the @ and the filename in a command string. But that is sort of misplaced here for filename or folder-name creation. --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |
