Yeah, guess some people either forget or just aren't aware that this is an
international newsgroup.

Or some people are simply stupid like Stan Brown and that Canadian
"Small Boys
Abuser". Somebody should smack them on their bottoms!! BD (the OP) is
a known troll obsessed with all things MVPs.

Just as well. BBC is the hacker. They steal your
ID with script and cookies, so that they can make
the maximum possible profit from ads. It's safe to
assume that any video not offered for download is
essentially spyware. By viewing it you're accepting
passive use of the Internet as a type of interactive
TV.

UK law says that they have to get your agreement. I'm not sure about USA
law, but I do notice that Google are currently having a big campaign on
agreement-getting.
Every app (including updates) that comes from Google Play onto my
Android tablets and phones always asks for my approval before installing.

You couldn't enjoy a fraction of today's Net without agreeing to some
extent. You'd miss out on so much that you'd become an oddity. The big
corps will have garnered their demographic info without you; ie you'd be
unrepresented, but the Net would go on.

But as the UK has a population of around 65 million, and have easy
access to this programme, surely it is not inconceivable that quite a
few of them just might be interested?

That was short and sweet. Not much new info, though. It wasn't aimed at
computer-savvy people; quite the opposite.
Two things struck me.
Firstly, that under UK law only phone companies and ISPs are obliged to
report cyber crime. That leaves out banks, holiday companies, large
stores, etc. etc. etc.
Secondly, the woman who got the email asking her to sign a transfer of
£46,000 from her account to her solicitor's. She just did it. Now, when
you hear something like that you think "Jeez, what an idiot". But she
looked and sounded intelligent enough; just that blind spot with
scammers. I've seen that in others; intelligent with a blind spot. You
can install all the AV you want, a firewall as mean as Jack Sprat; but
that blind spot can't be AV'd, only publicised to warn others.

Very glad to be an oddity. Why give in to THEM.

Yep, they made a big issue of the old lady who lost money from her bank
account.
They then had hackers say how they like ripping off credit cards.
What they did not say (and never do), OUT LOUD was, never use your debit
card on the net, use a credit card.
But that would be the financial institutions money and not yours.Hmmm.

Most certainly the PUBLIC learnt something new. :-)

Those interviewed were gobsmacked.

Hardly any ordinary folk I know personally have /any/ idea how bad
things have become if one uses the Internet nowadays. What's worse is
that they don't appear to care either! :-(
