Default XP Install Freezing

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to install XP onto a P4 system but the install keeps locking a
minute or so after entering the licence key. I've stripped the system to the
bare minimum components (cd-rom, hard drive, single memory) but it's still
locking. The board is a Gigabyte GA-8IG1000-G, Googling this suggested that
I disable as many of the un-necessary components as possible in the BIOS but
still no joy. Any other suggestions, what have I missed?

Cheers

First check to confirm all cooling fans are working

run a ram test

run the hard drive diagnostic

If all else fails, disable acpi in the bios

I was going in circles for a few hours in a similar situation when I
tried another XP installation CD.

The one I was using (a burned copy on a CD-r or maybe it was a DVD-r)
looked ok (visually) but it obviously had problems. An alternate CD
worked just fine. The system never threw up any sort of media error
during the install.
