Default Data Recovery

My windows XP had a major crash and when I tried to fix
it with the CD it went into some sort of error loop. It
won't load from the hard drive or the CD. I put another
hard drive in my computer and reloaded XP. I connected
the old drive in an attempt to retrieve my data and I can
get to everything except 'My Documents'. That is where
everything I need is. It tells me that it's not
accessable. I suspect it is because windows on that drive
was loaded with a password. How can I remove the
protection so that I can access my data???
