windows xp crashes with nvidia + dual monitors
hi -
here is my config: AMD XP 2000+ Kingston DDR333 768 MB MSI Ti 4800 SE Philips Dynamic Edge 4.1 (PSC604 sound card) Samsung 955DF & Envision EN-9110 Windows XP w/ SP1 I switched to dual monitors about five months. Until then, Windows was running nicely without any problems. After setting up dual monitors, I downloaded & installed the drivers from nvidia. Then, nightmares began. During the past months, my windows crashed for more than 1500 times. Sometimes, I would just say turn off, and it'd crash when it's shutting down and reboot again. I tried lots of things, but none seemed to have solved the problem. Meanwhile I started seeing problems with my X too, but these were once a week, and I thought it was still bearable. Recently, I needed a major version upgrade in my RedHat (I couldn't compile GNU libc with my gcc), so I said, "what the heck? I'll get a brand new harddrive, install XP from fresh, put VMware on top of it, and install linux there." An hour after installing XP and the latest drivers, two reboots! And other programs such as Winamp, Acrobat and IE crash all the time too. I assume the problem is with my graphics card driver, but am not sure. I've been facing this problem for a while now, and it's touching my nerves. I don't play games, and all I want out of my graphics card is to support dual monitors. Did anybody face this (similar) problem before? Any help (and I mean any) would really be appreciated, Thanks, Ozgun. |

Ozgun,
Please find the 5-10 most recent minidumps located at c:\windows\minidump and send them to . I will analyze the minidumps and get back to you on what is causing your system to crash and any suggestions I can make on how to fix the problem. -- Thanks, Lance Naugle Microsoft Video Driver OCA Triage * This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. windows xp crashes with nvidia + dual monitors
hi Lance,
Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it. I fresh installed XP on my desktop for a second time today, and decided to install drivers & stuff one by one (with one-two day intervals in between) to see where exactly problems start appearing. I have lots of minidumps on my second (old) harddisk, but that machine was in a "completely messed up" state, so I'd rather save the opportunity for this new harddisk. I will send an email when my machine starts crashing again, Thanks a lot, Ozgun. "Microsoft Video Driver OCA Triage" wrote in message ...
