Help w file permissions - error message (-2005529767)
Help. An app I updated worked fine, but now I get the error message
Invalid data (-2005529767) when I run it. Google found references to the error message dating back to 2009, but it involved Steam, to which I do not subscribe and have never installed on my pc. But the error message could crop up because file permissions have gone haywire on my pc. Windows Pro 8.1 64-bit. Underneath the "properties" function of my root level folder, the read/write attribute is listed as "read only". I manually change it to provide full read/write permission. Windows then pops up the screen to say I need admin privileges to do so and I click OK and change the permissions. Afterwards, before exiting the properties window and after clicking "apply" the changes, the read/write permissions are changed to allow read/write. Howver, when I prepare to do some file work, Windows has reset the folder to read only. Why? As far as I know, I'm running as administrator. I've also drilled down to advanced to change ownership to administrator. That change sticks. My guess is that my problem deals with the screwed up file read/write permissions, not to anything related to Steam. So I would like to know if anyone else has seen Windows screwing around with the file permissions. The last time I had problems like this was perhaps over a year ago, and I solved them by running as admin. This time around, I can't even get changes to file permissions to stick long enough so that I can run the app without it crashing. Thanks. |

At the suggestion in another group, I reran the program that was giving me problems. This time, it worked. I do not know why, just that it did. AFAIK, I did try running it as an administrator. The problem is, at least for now, resolved, and I'm proceeding with updating my software. Thanks for the links. I'll read them to see what I can glean. John |
