Cannot delete or display CDROM drive D: in Dev Mgr or Disk Mgmt
I recently installed a larger hard drive but cannot assing it to D: because
there's a phantom CDROM drive D: in Win Explorer. However, it does not show up in Dev Manager or in Disk Management so I cannot get rid of the entry. Therefore my new drive is registering as E: and none of my shortcuts that use D: are functioning. How can I get rid of the phantom CDROM drive and free up the drive letter D:, which the old hard drive used? Thanks, |

Cannot delete or display CDROM drive D: in Dev Mgr or Disk Mgm
DISKPART display:
DISKPART list volume Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- -------- Volume 0 K DVD-ROM 0 B Volume 1 L DVD-ROM 0 B Volume 2 C NTFS Partition 274 GB Healthy System Volume 3 Y RECOVERY NTFS Partition 10 GB Healthy Volume 4 Z DellAMD64 C NTFS Partition 288 GB Healthy Volume 5 J Removeable 0 B No D: drive shows up there. But in Win Explorer, I still see "CD Drive (D" right under the C-drive. How do I kill this entry so I get D: back? Thanks, "Andrew E." wrote: Try run, type: cmd In cmd type: DiskPart In DiskPart, type: list disk type: list volume type: HELP to get all cmds & to uninstall the cdrom that shows "Geoff" wrote: I recently installed a larger hard drive but cannot assing it to D: because there's a phantom CDROM drive D: in Win Explorer.
