Turning off virus protection in Security entre
I cannot turn off Microsoft Support Centre's Virus Protection. I want to do
this, because I use Norton Internet Security and Virus Protecion. The reason I cannot do this is because the Recommendations Button does not show under Virus Protection in the Support Centre. The Help file (full relevant text included below) says that this buton is not available when your Virus Protection setting is marked ON. This is a catch-22, is it not? You want to turn it OFF, when it is ON, but when it is ON, the button that you need to turn it OFF is not shown. Can someone please help? Full relevant text from the Microsoft Help and Support Cent "To specify that you are using an antivirus program that Windows does not find: To open the Security Center, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Security Center. In the Security Center, under Virus Protection, click Recommendations. In the Recommendations dialog box, select the I have antivirus software that I'll monitor myself check box, and then click OK. Notes The Recommendations button is not available when your Virus Protection setting is marked ON. " Thanks Geordie |

The Security Center does not have virus protection, however it can monitor
yours, in this case Norton AV. What version is Norton's? Have you updated it recently? When? -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/ "Geordie" wrote in message ... I understand from your first reply that Security Centre indicates Virus
Protection ON, because it detects Norton Antivirus. I use Norton Internet Security 2004 with Norton Antivirus 2004. AUtomatic Live-update is turned on and the last virus definition update was loaded 2005-02-23. Is this what you meant or did you mean I have to doanlad patches from Symantec? If this is not handled by Automatic Live-update I have not done it. Where is it supposed to be? In the Virus protection Box or under Mange Security settings for:? I have Windows Live-update turned on and all patches are applied. In Security Center look at the right under Resources. Locate and click "Change the way Security Center alerts me". Turning off virus protection in Security entre
Of course it shows Resources. I have been looking at all the wrong places
.... and I am blind. I did turn off all the alerts under "Change the way Security Centre allerts me. The problem is that every time I boot, Norton Internet Security alerts me to the fact that I may receive multiple security warnings and recomend that I turn it off in Security Centre as Norton will wanr me when there is a problem. This notification at times even pops up several times after windows has started and is a minor annoyance. Your reply and that of Jupiter Jones has convinced me that I have turned off the alerts and the problem may not necessarily be with WIndows Security Centre, but with Norton. I will go and search Symantecs website for support. Thanks for the Help. I will return here if I cannot get any answers from Symantec. Yes Security Center is monitoring your Norton.
Norton Live Update takes care of all Norton downloads very well. If all boxes are green, all is normal and OK. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/ "Geordie" wrote in message ...
