how to download virus def to discs

Hi again ppl
due to the fact that i have the startpage.qr.dll virus which causes the
lovely about:blank web page i can not connet to any websites. I can connect
to the net easy but i can not open any webpages or connect to any servers
that allow me to download new virus definitions.

Ive decided to save a free anti virus program to disc so i can run from
there (as the virus killed my norton completely in every way) but i need to
be able to download the NEW virus definitions and i cant do this.

so my question is does anyone know how to download virus updates to an
actual disc in which i can use at a later stage?????? might be a stupid
question but i just brought my norton and i cant reinstall it until this
trojan is gone!

I will not be possible to download an anti-virus application and run it off
CD with updated files.

Close that you'll get is the Norton's Installation CD which is bootable, but
won't accomodate changes to the files or executables.

If you are able to access a second PC, then take your infected hard disk and
attach it as a second hard drive on another PC. Then launch an Anti-Virus
application on that PC to scan your hard drive.

This will also ensure that no bad and horrible applications are running, as
your hard drive isn't accessed during Windows Startup in a second PC.

The startpage.gr.dll is actually classifed as spyware rather than a virus.

As I mentioned in an earlier posting: Spybot Search and Destroy or Adaware
are usually available on PC magazine Cover CD.

If you can't download then:
put your hard drive into another PC and scan for Viruses and Adware / Spyware
If you can't put the hard drive into another PC then:
buy a magazine.

You might check your hosts file. it should have only one entry in it like
this..
127.0.0.1 localhost. An entry here can prevent you from going to that site.

ran it last night and adaware froze my whole computer up mega time and i had
to abort it.
I have both those programs on disc as i downloaded them yesterday and saved
them. but as i said i will try again tonight and see how i go.
if not then i will go buy a magazine tomorrow and if that dont work then i

i checked my hosts about 3 days ago before my "search" died in the butt. Now
i cant search because it opens a blank page due to my virus. But thanks
anyway.
everyone has informed me to do the spybot and adaware - although i did them
last night and NOTHING was fixed but i will try again.

i ran everything last night and i got rid of that virus and i got rid of the
about:blank page too.
I can update my virus definitions now on the net but i still have a problem!
I can connect to the net easy BUT i can not display any web page what so
ever which makes it difficult still.
All i get is the "this page can not be displayed error" - i can connect to
servers as i updated ad aware and i updated my virus definitions and i ran
them but i cant see anything no matter what i type it it just comes up with
that soooo annoying error. Apart from that i have a small other prob but i
will get to that IF and ONLY IF i can fix the damn IE!!

i have done that over 100 times it does not make a difference
my whole problem is that no matter what web site i go to (it doesnt matter
if its micrsoft or anything) i can not get one website to sh ow instead all i
can get is
this page can not be displayed error" obviously there is some kind of error
probably from the virus i had im just finding it hard to locate it!!!!
