hal.dll continued
As far as I can tell both my BIOS and XP are running on
ACPI. Here's what leads me to this conclusion. Computer - ACPI Uniprocessor PC - Standard PC BIOS - ACPI Suspend to RAM For the ACPI Uniprocessor PC it says there are no drivers installed, when I try to update drivers it says that I already have the best drivers installed, then when I view the driver details there are three c:/windows/system32/hal.dll c:/windows/system32/ntkrnlpa.exe c:/windows/system32/ntoskrnl.exe The same applies for Standard PC as well I have a feeling this might be part of my problem. In BIOS the option to enable/disable hal.dll was disabled so I enabled it and still got the same message that prevented me from booting XP without the CD. I went back and disabled it. More input would be greatly appreciated. -Robert |

Your boot.ini file may have become corrupted. If your setup has only a
single partition on a bootable hard drive, your boot.ini should look like: [boot loader] timeout=5 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect or something that looks very similar. If your setup is a multi-boot setup, then your boot.ini entry for XP may be pointing to the wrong partition. -- Kent W. England, Microsoft MVP for Windows "Robert" wrote in message ...
