Default Upgrading the MB on my video card

The system requirements for a game I am running is

Video Card: 64 MB (128MB recommended)

I went threw System Information with msinfo32 then to display and adaptor ram. Assuming I'm looking at the right thing it says 64.00 MB for my system.

This is causing my game to run very laggy and I was curious if there was a way of downloading somthing with more MB on the video adaptor from the net or do I have to go out and by a video card that excells the one I have built into the mother board?

I just threw in 1.0 GB of ram to the computer which cost me the price of an extra ram card, so if there was any way I could save some cash and upgrade this threw a download it would be nice.

Any feedback/help would be appreciated.

Two possibilities: you can add memory to your video card -ask the card's
manufacturer or you buy a new video card with more memory already installed

Doing the first possibility seems like a bit over doing it as oppose to buying a new video card with more memory. I figured that was the answer I just wanted to make sure, because the 1gb card set me back 150$ and I just wanted to make sure.

So just to verify I can call a place up like I did for the 1 gb of ram and purchase a say 128mb Memory card and just plug it in like I did the ram on the computer right?

thanks for the response too.

You might find that the video card manufacturer has a RAM module that could
upgrade the card for far less money than purchasing a new card.

Check the manufaturer's web site to verify possibility of adding memory to
the existing card. Then, if that is not possible consider purchasing a new
card.

Before you buy a new card verify the kind of card your existing motherboard
supports. Is it PCI, AGP, or ePCI? And if AGP, what speed - 2x, 4x, 8x?

Start, Run (type) dxdiag (enter).. on the video page it will tell you
exactly what you have. Remember integrated graphics (a chipset on the
motherboard) will never be as good as a separate graphics card.

Thumbs up

It's PCI. Thx for the info I'm going to go buy a 256MB video card next week I figure if I'm going to buy one might as well buy a good one and nto the minimum so I won't have to buy another one in the future.

I hope it's a PCI-E since PCI graphics cards are almost absolete now. We
went from PCI to AGP, and then from AGP to PCI-E.

oooooooh, I'm not sure how can I tell? Well heres what I did to find out. I went into "internet books" and went to "IBM Manual" and found my correct computer and looked at the inside look at the under-carriage of the tower and it labeled them as "PCI" slots.

Start, Run (type) dxdiag (enter).... and on the first page it should tell
you what you have right now.

Another way is www.belarc.com which will tell you what motherboard and other
hardware you have and from that, you should be able to go to the motherboard
manufacturer's website and find out exactly what you need.
