XP Install says my drive c: is "corrupt" WHY? It isn't
I'm trying to install XP Home Ed. Upgrading from Win ME.
Installation chugs away and appx 1/2 hour into it, it reboots and I get a blue screen that says: QUOTE: Windows XP Home Edition Setup --------------------------------------- Setup has determined that drive C: is corrupted and cannot be reparied. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3. SO WHAT GIVES? I ran scandisc and even did disk surface scan before trying again. Got same message. Drive C: is IDE Western Digital 80 Gig. Drive is a couple weeks old. ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEAS???? Thanks a lot. Tom Kopil |

Go here
http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp you may already have got a diagnostic disk with the drive but if you don't download DLG Diagnostics (172KB) put it on a bootable floppy, i.e.. format create an MS-DOS start-up disk unzip the contents of the disk you downloaded to the floppy 3 files DLGDIAG.EXE DLGDIAG.TXT DLGLICE.TXT have a good read of the txt file DLGDIAG.TXT, print it out for reference if you have a printer use the floppy to boot the computer run DLGDIAG.EXE from the floppy if you have read DLGDIAG.TXT you should know what to do this program will tell you if the drive is installed properly and in good working order if no errors are reported try a low level format (write zeros) this will wipe every thing on the drive and normally solves problems like this, and then try installing again also make sure that the IDE cables are fully inserted and that power cable to drive is plugged in properly "Tom" wrote in message ...
