Depends on your mobo bios, could be no power, ram, loose or shorting
connection, video fault.

Consult the manual that came with the computer or motherboard to
determine the specific error that the beep code signifies.

LONG SINGLE BEEP is almost always RAM error; bios checks RAM first, and
can't go on if it fails, that's why no screen or anything else.

Try it w/ just one single ram module installed; try each slot in turn, try
each module. hopefully you'll at least get it to post and determine which
module (may) be bad [note: neither may be "bad", they may just not work
well together, or not at all in that motherboard. all PC3200 (or
whatever) are not the same, the BANK ORGANIZATION of the dimm makes a
difference. Many modules sold on ebay are of the "not so compatable"
variety.

I had this problem when I first bought a new machine a few years ago. It
got progressively worse for a few days until the machine wouldn't keep
running for more than a few minutes. The machine manufacturer said it was
their problem and they had me send the machine back and they gave me a new
one.

If it's an AWARD BIOS then your ram is the problem.

Expanded answer:

If there is nothing shown on the monitor and there is that long beep from the
tower case, this is usually indicate a "hardware" failure. As it was previous
mentioned, the RAM may have a problem. This is not the same thing as the hard
drive.
