Default Desktop Problems

Win XP Home

At startup not Desktop and I get a message that there are two toolbars
on the same side.
How do I fix that ?

Process Explorer will run from Ctrl-Alt-Del

The from PE I run MConfig.
All startup and services are checked.

I close MSConfig and get a minimal desktop.

"C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Desktop is not accessible
Access Denied"

I checked the above path and removed the Read Only state.
Did not fix the problem.

I get only two icons (Explorer and Trash), one service that has a form
can show, my clock widget that I have running on all my PCs runs, the
microphone toolbar shows but is blank.

Start Menu is slow opening and sometimes is just all white (no entries
to select from)

Can start apps from Start menu,

Right-Clik on desktop has some entries.

Partially working after all of that but only partially up all the way.

Can access the internet and my LAN NAS.

Windows Defender cannot install updates.

What do you mean? What's the exact error message?

When the display update process looks stalled like that, it could mean two
things: the CPU is too busy processing other things; and/or the CPU is
waiting for a response from a hardware. The cause can be anything, so gather
more information. e.g. How's the CPU usage? Is the mouse cursor movement
stuttering? Does the keyboard LED response got delayed? How's the harddisk
LED status? If non SSD harddisk is installed, is there a grinding noise?
etc.
