PDF can be made to be fill in forms. If it is a PDF form you
will have
to save to a PDF file to save the form with the information

I've hardly ever seen that happen. The fact remains we just
don't need
PDF.

What do you suggest instead?

In Italy, when we do our taxes online, we use web forms.
Web tax return forms automatically calculate your totals and how much
you are due to pay.
That wouldn't be possible with a PDF form.

Why do you have to do your taxes at all?

Actually many (most?) people don't have to.

I can only speak for the UK, where only the self employed fill in taxes

I'm retired and still have to do self assessment on line in the UK.

Yes. I still do them online since I stopped working. I used to always
get few quid back each year but various governments have changed things
now so that, for instance, the government keeps the tax on share
dividends even if you're earning less than your allowance.
:-(

Something everybody has - RTF, DOC, etc.

RTF maybe.
I haven't really used it much.

Unfortunately DOC has poor support outside of the MS Windows world.
For instance OpenOffice and LibreOffice can open them but the results
can be disappointing with complex documents.

Because it's a very useful tool. Does your pdf reader not enable you to
fill in pdf forms? If so, get the free Foxit Reader.

I posted earlier that I learned about adding text comments to a PDF
document. I did not say that I am using Adobe Reader DC.

If you have not updated to the DC version it is significantly faster the
revision X

It's meant to autoupdate.... Or is that broken too?

XI and DC are both supported at the moment and Adobe provide security
updates for both. I think X may still be supoorted too but I'm not sure.
Updating from XI to DC is optional though I thought the Windows versions
nagged you to do it until you explicitly said no to DC.

I believe the situation with Adobe is that Reader X is supported through
Windows XP. If you have Windows 7 or greater you can use XI and DC.
Windows XP will not upgrade to the newer versions.

As I said previously if you have not updated to Reader DC, you are
missing so much. DC runs so much faster that the XI or X.

From this thread there appears to be many who have not used Adobe
Reader DC.

Because Adobe has convinced everybody that pdf forms are the best method
to provide forms that users can fill them out in their own time without
an internet connection!!

PDF is a read only document!

No it is not. If it was read only then how can you create them in the
first place? You are Tough aren't you? Is 1265 your prison number?

Photoshop Elements can edit them because I use them; Mind you, I also
have Acrobat because I get all Adobe software free of charge. I have
just received a new code for next year. This is what they said in their

You do know that there's an electronic trail of your posts, do you not?
Your lies and/or confusion is documented. You clearly stated,

PDF is a read only document!

It is not, and everybody seems to know it but you.

And that is still my point.

That's what you've changed your point into in order to avoid admitting
your error, I guess. Either that or you're trolling again.

This is not a PDF group. Try writing a letter to Adobe Claus.
Or Dr. Phil. Or Dr. Oz. 'Tis the season. Maybe you can get a
brain transplant for Xmas because people are sentimentally retarded
this time of the year. Or there's a Black Friday sale.

There ain't a PDF group so you'll just have to hear my whinging.

trying to destroy this group now are your phucker******?

I found DC took some getting used to.
I couldn't immediately see how to move the page around with the mouse.

I've figured it out now though.
