Name of running programs
I want to bring up "things" in Windows without having to search.
I want to bring them up from the command prompt. The question is how to find the name of something running once it's already running on Windows 10? For a simple example, take the Device Manager. I want to bring up the device manager without searching for it. I want to bring up the device manager by typing something like this. c:\ devmgmt.msc Only I don't yet know that this is the name of the device manager. But I can find the device manager in Cortana by typing: "Device Manager" So once the Device Manager is running, how do I then find its name? I can easily google but the point is not to search. Searching finds this, but how can I do it without having to search? https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-acce...prompt-2626360 The question is how to find the name of the device manager when it's running. The control+alt+del task manager shows the device manager is running. But nothing in the task manager shows the name of "devmgmt.msc". In the Task Manager devmgmt is a subset of "Microsoft Management Console". That subset is called "Device Manager", not "devmgmt.msc". So nothing in the task manager tells me what to use to start it. C:\ devmgmt.msc The question is how to find the name of the device manager (or anything else) once it's already running on Windows 10? |

First go to the Task Manager's 'Details' tab, and configure the 'Details' tab show the 'Command Line' column. 2. Now go to the Task Manager's Processes' tab, right-click on "Microsoft Management Console", and choose 'Go to details' from the right-click menu. Task Manager will take you to the correct row on the 'Details' tab, where you can see the command line. If you started 'Device Manager', the command line will be: "C:\Windows\System32\mmc.exe" "C:\Windows\System32\devmgmt.msc" -- Kind regards Ralph |

'tasklist' works from the CMD prompt in 7. not sure about win-10-nic. check out out, maybe it does what you want?? -- (aka 'Bombastic Bob' in case you wondered) 'Feeling with my fingers, and thinking with my brain' - me 'your story is so touching, but it sounds just like a lie' "Straighten up and fly right" |
