Is windows Messanger compatible with other programs
Greetings,
I'm not completely sure what you're asking, so I'll try to summarize. Just so you know, Windows Messenger is outdated and really shouldn't be used for video communication; use Windows Live Messenger instead. Windows Live Messenger and MSN Messenger are completely compatible with one another and as such, anyone with Windows 98, Millennium Edition 2000, XP, or Vista can do video communication with you on a PC. With iChat you're limited to just Macs (although there's AIM compatibility, it frankly is not very good). Although you could use a third-party application like Skype which works on both PCs and Macs and is quite good. Regardless which platform you go with, you should be fine on the video side, assuming your contacts are willing to install [free] software. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2007 Jonathan Kay. Windows Messenger was (is) the application including with Windows XP
installs that works on the MSN (now Windows Live) instant messaging network. iChat is a wonderful video chat application made by Apple that will video/audio chat (quite well, I must say. I don't know what the previous poster has dealt with in the past.) with other users of iChat, users of AIM, or other iChat users that are on the Google Talk or other Jabber network or your local network. You'll be much happier down the line if you go with the Mac. Your computer will still be working four years down the road and you'll be able to do whatever you want with it, free from viruses and spyware. Take advantage of the free hour session that the Apple Store offers. It'll be worth it. |
