Ken,
Well to heck with confused it worked and your a star. I ended up copying the file off a laptop running XP Home, not ideal but it's all all up and working. The enigma is why it's working on my other Pro machine without the dll!!!!! Many thanks again for your help Regards Jim "Jim Florence" wrote in message .. . Ken, I'm a bit confused as this file is not on any of the machines that I have working on the same network. I will try installing The Client again and let you know what happens Regards Jim "Ken Wickes [MSFT]" wrote in message ... Closest I came was http://support.microsoft.com/default...en-us;Q197157, close but no cigar Any help gratefully received Regards Jim Florence |

Workstation Service will not start
I'd be pretty surprised if it really wasn't there on the working machines.
Check the spelling and make sure you look in the correct directory if you have XP installed somewhere else. Or you can use the %windir% variable. C:dir %windir%\system32\wkssvc.dll Volume in drive C has no label. I occasionally hear of services getting up and walking off (it's usually the Server service), but I have no idea why or how it could even happen. Do the properties on your network connection show the "Client For Microsoft Networks" installed? You might try reinstalling it there. You also might try running "sfc /scannow" and see if it notices the missing file. -- Ken Wickes [MSFT] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
