Bootvis only runs when you tell it to. It is a tool for developers to view
driver load times. XP does what Bootvis does on its own every 3 days.

Although I do have a P4 computer, I do not have hyperthreading. As well
this article deals with a trace file that is corrupt. Mine just grows and
grows, and I haven't been able to delete it. Even if I deny "everyone"
access to the file and folder, it still keeps growing.
Any other ideas?

Hmm... So you're rude to people who reply to your postings (OK, they were
less than polite themselves ), but then you ask people to be polite in your
sig? That's makes a LOT of sense.... Really, if you want help then you do
need to calm down somewhat... If people are less than helpfull, just ignore
their posts instead of starting a flame war.

Now, as to your problem. If you manually uninstalled BootVis whilst it was
still logging, then that explains why the log is still building itself, even
though it appears BootVis is not there anymore. It also explains why you
are unable to reinstall it as the files it's trying to overwrite are
currently in use. Your best bet is to look in the Services applet (control
panel - administrative tools - services) and see if there is a logging
service running, or any services to do with BootVis. Stop them and then see
if the logfile will delete. You should then try reinstalling BootVis,
disable ALL tracing options, and then uninstall it.

If none of that works, try a system restore back to before you first
installed BootVis which should solve the problem for you. If neither of
these work, then you may be forced to do a reinstall. Unfortunately, (and
I'm NOT being rude here), this can be the price you pay for using tools like
these without reading the documentation carefully. BootVis is not intended
for anyone who is unsure what they're doing...

You are not only rude, a breaker of USNET convention with all of this
cross-posting you are also way too impatient.

You were way too impatient when failing to give BootVis an oportunity to
finish its trace - look at the HD LED if you don't think it's working! You
were impatient with the un-install - would assume BootVis was still at work
tracing when you tried to remove it. You were extremely impatient when you
cludged your registry and now you are extremely impatient... and hostile
because people are pointing this out (hopefully to help you to prevent doing
the same error again) and can't provide a "magical" cure to your
self-induced dilema!

Even if there were those who told you to go into recovery console, run
attrib if necessary and delete the file from there (under quasi-DOS so it
wouldn't be in use) you would still gripe because it's to difficult, you
don't know DOS test commands or you don't have an XP CD!!

Some people just want to gripe! You won't be wasting my bandwidth any
further as I'm giving you the *PLUNK* that you so richly deserve!

Where was I supposed to read? The download site (non-ms, as ms no longer
offers bootvis), didn't offer any instructions, and bootvis help wasn't
exactly helpful.

Thanks for that usefull pointer, I tried it, with no success. I'm going to
try Len's advice and use the recovery console.

If none of that works, try a system restore back to before you first

Because BV ate up so much space, SR erased my restore points

Restart Bootvis and use its menus to turn off tracing. Restart. Then delete
the tracelog file.

what files were installed onto your system and what registry files were
written do you?
