WMI is corrupt and I can't change firewall setting?
Hi, I have an issue where i can network 2 xp home pc's
but the 2nd cannot access the internet gateway. In a closer look the advanced tab in network connection (properties) says something about WMI may be corrupt and this disables access to the internet connection firewall. Also trying to run the network wizard fails, which is why i've gone for manual set up. ANY HELP PLEASE! I've tried repairing the install of winxp, then over the top install and still no luck. At some point the network was working fine as the gateway was visible and i grabbed some updates! where did it all go wrong? |

Rebuild WMI:
goto Start-run (or open a command prompt) and execute the following commands in turn: winmgmt /clearadap winmgmt /kill winmgmt /unregserver winmgmt /regserver winmgmt /resyncperf net stop winmgmt del %windir%\system32\Wbem\Repository\*.* /s net start winmgmt %windir%\system32\wbem\wbemtest.exe finally, reboot your PC. WMI is corrupt and I can't change firewall setting?
Thinking about your instructions I went for safe mode and
then tried the process. You freaking legend! meant in the nicest way. Thanks it restored the advanced functions and i assume fixed the corruption. Thanks again, Now to reconnect the network and get the gateway up. cheers -----Original Message----- Ok thanks am trying now! I couldn't del by using *.* as files were currently in use, so I deleted the entire directory. *good/or bad* Anyhow the wbemtest started and i've rebooted. When I check the advanced tab again in network connections it has the same message "The WMI ma be corrupted try using restore" etc. Am I meant to (connect) when using the wbemtest? Thanks for your help -----Original Message----- Rebuild WMI: goto Start-run (or open a command prompt) and execute the following commands in turn: winmgmt /clearadap winmgmt /kill winmgmt /unregserver winmgmt /regserver winmgmt /resyncperf net stop winmgmt del %windir%\system32\Wbem\Repository\*.* /s net start winmgmt %windir%\system32\wbem\wbemtest.exe finally, reboot your PC.
