Default Management Console Error

When open Disk Management in Computer Management get
error message "Microsoft Management Console Has Encountered
A Problem and Needs To Close. Sorry for inconvenience"

Details of error:
AppName: mmc.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180
ModName: dmdskmgr.dll

Using XP Pro SP2. Any info on what this means or
how to fix would be much appreciated.

Default Management Console Error

Yes... finally... after 4 hours on the phone with Microsoft... here's what
finally did the trick.

Click start, run, type in "cmd"

Then on the black screen type in "fsc/scannow" -- it will take a while to
scan, but after that you shouldn't have any more problems.

I hope this helps you as it did me.

No luck with that solution...says FSC is not a recognized command. Can't seem to run a program called scannow either. I'm contemplating taking my whole machine to Compusa and have them look at it.

That's because there was a typo there... The command is "sfc /scannow" - sfc
is System File Checker. Bear in mind that you will probably need your XP CD
for this to work. Basically, it checks to make sure that all your system
files are correct and up-to-date.
Regards,
Steve.
