dual core cpu
hi, I just bought a new pc with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ cpu. But windows
recognises it at a AMD Hammer Family processor. I'm not sure if both cores are working... is there any solution to let windows know that there is a Dual Core cpu installed? greetz |

Antioch Then as far as I know, you would need to have XP PRO 64 bit loaded. Otherwise, I think your system will only run as 32bit. I have not looked into this though, since this time last year when MS launched the 64 bit OS, and that then was my understanding. Technology changes so quickly. Didn't the retailer give you any info about this? Rgds Antioch |

I had hoped others would have posted on this - it would not hurt to stick a
Q into windowsxp.general, or do a Google if you have not already. I have put a link below to one of my favourites and they have a July 2006 about Vista and 64 bit - a good starting point. http://www.tech-recipes.com/microsof..._tips1426.html But I would favour a Google - you have at least 6 months before Vista will be here. Anyhow, lots of hardware is still not 64 ready and most of the driver stuff for GPU's are still in beta form, as I understand the current situation - but then I have not been in touch that closely for the past few months. dual core cpu
pro supports dual processors/ dual cores, home supports only Dual core as it
sees it as one single processor, if it came installed as dual core then it's working, if you installed the cpu then to see the dual core you need to do a repair install to load the drivers for the 2nd core, home will see the second core if you do the repair install. DO NOT do this if it came already dual core installed with the operating system. "Mr.Mystic" wrote in message ... thanks antioch, I guess I'll just sit & wait for Windows Vista to arrive. dual core cpu
Look in your device manager under processors, how many do you see..?
Right click my computer icon, manage, click device manager.. Right click on the my computer icon, click properties, does it show there as dual core..? Look in your task manager how many CPU usage history graphs do you see..? While in task manager, click view, move the pointer to CPU History, is there an option for two graphs..? Type msconfig in the run box and select the boot.ini tab, advanced options button, place a temporary check in the /NUMPROC= box, click the drop-down arrow, is 2 avalible..? Remove the check from the box and exit advanced options and no changes will be made.. If your not having problems don't make any changes.. Run several programs at the same time and check the task manager, to see activity in both CPU history graphs j;-j "Mr.Mystic" wrote: hi, I just bought a new pc with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ cpu. Rgds Antioch Home will recognoize both cores. *****YOU DO NOT NEED Windows XP x64 or VISTA******** All current versions of WIndows XP will recognoze and use both cores. Sounds like the OP did not install Motherboard chipset and AMD chipset drivers. Bobby |
