Default format my old drive

hi
I had to fit a new hard drive on my pc because my c drive had bad sectors,
my freind who fitted the new e drive mirror copyed the cdrive because he
could not format the c drive, I now what to remove the c drive but my pc
will not run without it fitted and I still cannot format the c drive.
has any one got any idea how iI can solve this so I am using just my new
hard drive
