Default msconfig and regedit

It`s been about a week but for some reason when i try to access msconfig and
regedit the screens come on the screen for about 2 seconds and then
disappear, the computer won`t let me access them. I`ve scanned my computer
for viruses and adware but have come up blank. System restore doesn`t work
either. I even tried to reinstall windows but it won`t let me.
The only thing new to my computer that I can think of is that my daughter
has been using aim and yahoo messenger....
Can someone help me?

You'll need to scan with a virus scanner that's not on your computer. Some viruses actually attack
the anti virus scanner.

See:
Why does Task Manager, MSCONFIG, or REGEDIT disappear while opening?

Rescan the system from the Safe Mode. This usually indicates a malware
attack.

As others have said, there are several known malware items which have
this effect on a computer. You need to use some additional resources
to scan your computer such as

Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
WindowSecurity.com TrojanScan http://windowssecurity.com/trojanscan
Webroot http://www.webroot.com/

Good luck
