Desktop - how to display a pic less than screen size?
Want to display a picture on Desktop but want it to have a decent size
border around it. How do I do that? I've used control Panel/Display/Desktop/chosen a pic and used Position Centre...sometimes the pic appears exactly as required other times it takes up the full screen. How do I control the size of the pic to be displayed on the screen? Thanks. |

How do I control the size of the pic to be displayed on the screen? Resize it before attempting to use it that way in your favorite picture editing application. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

To see what your desktop dimensions are, right click a blank area on your XP desktop. Left click Properties then the Settings tab. The size of the desktop is listed under the scroll bar on the left bottom area of the window that opens. Using an image editing program (lots of people use the free IrfanView at http://www.irfanview.com/) resize the picture you want at 92 DPI with an image in pixel width and height less than you see in the settings tab using the same aspect ratio as the original image. So if your original image is 2000 X 1700 pixels you need to shrink it to 1000 X 850 to maintain the same aspect ratio. Otherwise the image will be skewed out of shape. Always save your image as a new file, do not overwrite the original file as you may not like the new size and want to change it later. That way you can always go back to the original image instead of a smaller image that would lose quality. |
