Went okay here but I have a relatively older Mahjongg game (CD original)
that was running fine on 10 till this update, now it's inop.
The game shifts the video into some 800x600 mode then shifts back when
you exit. You get a warning notification from Windows that optimal
resolution is not set, but it's only a warning.

Anyway that shift in resolution fails now. You see it try and the
smaller rectangle appears but after 4 seconds it goes away and no game.

My wife has it on her PC too, so I'm eager to see if her's does it too.
We have somewhat different hardware.

Is the program a PE32 or a Metro App ?

If it's a PE32, try doing Properties and set the
Compatibility to Windows 7 or something :-) Then
see what happens.

The issue was the video driver that MS installed during the update and
replaced my perfectly good driver. They put in a generic PNP that was
set to only 1920x1080 (+/-) so the game could not change the resolution
to what it wanted.

I simply went into device manager and click the update driver and by
golly MS found a good driver and it reverted to the setting I wanted
which was 1600x900. And with other options for the video now, the
program could change to what it wanted with no issues.

All fixed.

Yeah, ain't that grant!? Why the fsck does a Microsoft/Windows update
touch stuff that wasn't theirs in the first place!?

So you had to figure out what Microsoft could have broken and unbreak
it.

Wasn't the purpose of these 'updates' for things to get *better*?

All fixed.

No thanks to Microsoft.

It's not always that bad.

It's a matter of technique.

Try downloading the DVD and see if the migration logic
handles the driver a bit better that way.

When Windows Update does an Upgrade install, or if you
use that "EXE" they offer on one of the web pages,
those tend to want to "queue up" a new driver before
the install happens. (The folder with the driver files
is "anonymized" to prevent people from figuring it out.)
This can foul up, and the OS could end up with the
Basic Display Adapter ("VESA") driving the display.
Then you'll see a notification in the lower right corner,
to the effect that the freshly installed upgraded OS
is now "looking for a video driver".

In other cases, the migration logic uses the driver
already in the system. As long as the driver is stored
in a standard format, like many other things in the
system, the migration logic will reinstall it for you.

There are some minor differences in how each upgrade
path behaves. It would take you a bit of time to
re-characterize "how it works this week" ...

I haven't needed to touch the Insider Edition in some
time, and it's been through about 20 upgrade cycles
at least. So this stuff *can* work... but YMMV.

Microsoft/Windows does not normally touch stuff. When somebody posts
something here, it doesn't mean that Microsoft/Windows has touched the
stuff. People posts here WHEN they have problems; Millions of people
don't post here because they don't have any problems. This is the
general rule.

You really need to try something using a spare HD and see how the
installation goes. You can't simply rely on what people says here;
Majority are Linux users so their knowledge of handling Windows almost
zero. The person who told you that one of his drivers was messed up is
a known Linux junkie and he keeps bragging about it. So little wonders
his machine was screwed up by Windows 10 update.

So you had to figure out what Microsoft could have broken and unbreak
it.

Again the person who did it was simply testing Windows Update but his
interest is mainly to report that "Windows is crap so stay away.
Instead use Linux". If you rely on people like that then something is
wrong with your ability to make up your own mind. Try it and see it
yourself whether or not Windows 10 is for you. I have said many times
that Windows require some intelligence and common sense and you have
demonstrated quite adequately that you have a serious problem in this
respect.

Wasn't the purpose of these 'updates' for things to get *better*?

The purpose of updates is to enhance and provide new features in Windows.

No thanks to Microsoft.

Microsoft doesn't make anything for people like you so there is no need
to thank them. You can decide what is right for you. You don't have to
use Windows at all to browse the web and read facebook pages or use
twitter. Windows is for people who have to do some serious work. It is
not really meant fr retired people unless they have interest in modern
technology.

One wonders why people like you hang out on Windows 10 newsgroup? Is it
because you like it but you don't have the necessary intelligence to use it?

I feel your pain. My Access10 screens are too big
for the monitor. My system (display) settings for
the "Scale & Layout" are 125% as before, as is the
screen resolution.

Are you sure the warning isn't displayed by the monitor itself?

The video driver maybe. But I'm shooting at the messenger.

I updated one of my Win10 Pro computers to build 1803
today. The upgrade itself went well but... I no longer have a
mouse when I RDP into that computer. The mouse works ; just
no cursor or mouse trail or anything. I've uninstalled the
mouse driver and USB drivers and rebooted; I've changed the
mouse settings to have a trail (per a Google search on this
issue); nothing.

If I use AnyDesk to connect to the computer, I have a mouse
pointer since that's the AnyDesk driver.

Mine went OK, too. It took most of the night, but in the morning it was
all over. The only thing I've found wrong was that the update removed
my Windows 7 Games package. I reinstalled it and all seems well.

Did it here this afternoon, took a nap while it ran.

Haven't noticed anything different.

I have migrated to a new instant of Windows10, on
the same MBoard and it was this one I upgraded. It
was very fast. The only problem so far is the
larger screen sizes in Access10 even though all
Windows System settings are the same. For the
past week I have been tranferring files from the
old Windos10 to the new - a tedious process- and
reinstalling all the software - an ongoing
process. This new version 1803 is very fast and
I'm very happy with it. The CPU fan does not
screech & whine like before and all applications
are quicker.
The old Winows10 was dumped over Windows7 and so I
would recomment anyone not doing this.
