There is a way to show selection check boxes on every line of the file display, and they can be clicked individually. I don't do it & I don't remember how to set it up, but I do recall that it is available. IIRC, this only works like Ctrl-Click, not Shift-Click. OK, I just spent 10 seconds to find it.
