USB3 and XP SP3
Does XP SP3 Home support USB3? To use an USB3 port, will you have to buy
new devices; printer, keyboard and mouse etc? Thank you, David |

USB3 and XP SP3
As of today; NO. XP Home or Pro would need new drivers and they would have
to be supplied by the manufacturer of the add-in card Yes, all hardware would have to be new. Present motherboards with USB ports are not compatible with USB 3 - the port design is different. New motherboards are being released with USB 3 "titus12" wrote in message ... Does XP SP3 Home support USB3? To use an USB3 port, will you have to buy new devices; printer, keyboard and mouse etc? Whether or not the manufacturer of the USB 3.0 device you get has drivers for Windows XP would be best determined by you visiting their support site looking for drivers/readinf specs before you buy/asking the manufacturer/etc. As far as old devices not working (USB devices) - they will work fine. 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0... -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

Thank you, David Do you actually expect ANY operating system to support hardware that didn't exist until 100 years later? 10 years later? 1 year later? If the hardware doesn't exist during the development of an OS, just how could embedded support be included within it? If you are still using an old OS but need support for new hardware then you need to check with the hardware maker if they provide the software (usually drivers) to add support to the older OS. They may if they perceive enough of their potential customer base to still be using that old OS. However, they may decide to not support that old OS and pick a market where they have the most likely candidates for customers along with reducing their costs for supporting their products on an old OS that is no longer supported even by the OS maker. |

New motherboards are being released with USB 3 Although the port design is a little different, it is backward compatible with earlier USB devices, so you will not have to buy a new printer, keyboard or mouse. As it happens none of the devices that you mention would even benefit from USB3. "titus12" wrote in message ... Does XP SP3 Home support USB3?
