Default MSMSGS.EXE or MSNMSGR.EXE?

I have TWO messenger EXE's that run at startup. Only one messenger actually
appears on my desktop. Which is the current incarnation of Microsofts
Messenger software?

"C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

- or -

"C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background

????

Hello,

for the newest Windows Live Messenger and the MSN Messenger it's msnmsgr.exe
..
The other is Windows Messenger (msmsgs.exe).

Greetings,
P. Di Stolfo

The answer is 'both'

They are different pieces of software (that have overlapping functionality).

Greetings,

To answer the evitable other question, although it's best to keep Windows Messenger as its
required for Remote Assistance, Whiteboard and Application Sharing, you can at least turn it
off from starting up.

To do so, click Start, then Run, entering "msmsgs" and clicking OK. When Windows Messenger
starts, click the Tools menu, then Preferences, uncheck the option at the top to start the
program automatically and click OK.
