Default no activity after restore attempt

I've had problems trying to use restore point - none were accepted although
the PC rebooted each time to show the "no changes have been made" screen. I
then went back to the first restore point shown as still being still
available, (sometime in August), but after XP restarted it refused to load
my personal settings. The monitor just remaine blank with the cursor
displaying but nothing else.

I tried going into safe mode but the up/down arrows refused to move. In
desperation I reset several times and also switched off completely for
several minutes. On switching back on there is some hard drive activity
judging by the flashing LED and the usual start up blip. But the monitor
now remains in power save mode and its diagnostics report no signal coming
from th PC. There is no rebooting at all.

Any help welcomed please.

You could do a bit more on the diagnostics - if the main problem now is no
signal to your monitor, try checking your BIOS settings for video output,
try removing then reseating your video card, maybe then swapping over the
video card with another (if you have another) and
try a different monitor. Also, try removing and reseating your RAM chips (in
fact, try that first) and ensuring that all connections to hard disk and
other components are firmly connected.

But it sounds as if a technician will be required and the only purpose in
all this is to be able to tell him what you've tried so that he doesn't
waste your time and his.

displaying but nothing else.
