Default save as ".txt" extension not being added-help

wife is running xp-pro in her medical office. I do not have a check in
the hide ext. for known file type, under folder options-view.

In MS word-office-notepad-wordpad-all browsers-etc., when you save a
file by choosing save as-and select txt or text, wherever you save the
file it shows up with the .txt extension showing or added.

A new billing program she has started to use because of government
regulations, brought to my attention by her receptionist, will not add
the .txt extension to the saved files about to be electronically billed.
The billing will not proceed because of this, and she has to manually go
and add the .txt extension to every file.

Would this be an xp problem or the billing programs problem. The "save
as" comes from the billing program, as the bill is processed and then
needs to be saved, (like all programs-click on file-save as), but then
xp saves the file on the computer, but without the .txt extension. Does
not make any difference where the files are saved, (the billing program
folder, or even if you make a folder somewhere else on the
drive-computer), xp will not add the .txt extension to it. They are
legit .txt files. As stated above, any other program will add the
extension to a .txt file correctly, anywhere on the computer.

any body help-more info provided if needed.

Thanks Bob

This won't do any harm to try:

Scroll down to the TXT File Association Fix.

Good luck!

The program you are using determines how files will be saved.
