Default Desktop Search Problem

Using Outlook Express some unwanted and unpleasant files from a NewsGroup to
which I did not subscribe got 'saved' automatically on my WXP2 Home laptop.
I found and removed them (erased) but now Windows Desktop Search keeps
finding them, with a path to the non-existing file and headings for their
content. They cannot be opened or deleted (as they are not there!) but are
listed. I cannot find them with Search or Run. I have tried 3 Registry
Cleaners, but still WDS finds the offending material. How can I fully clean
up so that WDS no longer shows these non-existent folders / files?

Default Desktop Search Problem

Hello nass,

Sorry to be a pain but could you explain how this might relate to my problem
and how it might cure it? It does not seem to me to be relevant and I am
nervous about doing things I dont understand, but then I know almost nothing.
defrag, I have never got Windows defrag to work on this computer, it
always says defrag not needed and wont do it, so I have a prog which defrags
continually which I presume is wrking!

Default Desktop Search Problem

Hello nass and thanks for responding. However, I tried this and it did not
work. Plus, I have found a great many more of the 'offending' file headers
(or whatever they are) but I have made a bit of pogress (I didnt subscribe
to any of them). The files are in
C_Documents_and_Settings_name_Local_Settings_Temp_ MSNL (then a number). I
can get them to appear in EditPad Lite which has a button to 'delete a file
permantently from the disc' but it does not seem to work. A dialogue box
come up with the path, asking if I want to delete and I click yes. But the
files are still there, when I use Windows Desktop Search. It seems what I
need to do is delete the Folder ".... Local_Settings_Temp_MSNL ....." BUT
I cant find it or delete it. My searching includes hidden folders. Any
suggestions please?

Default Desktop Search Problem

Hello nass, I had done lots of this cleaning up without effect. However,
problem seems solved with help on another Forum. It seems WDS was not
finding files 'on my computer' but just in its own index memory. Clicking on
Rebuild Index in WDS seems to have removed them OK.
